Pastoral Skills Training Programs for Young People

Training in Horse Riding, Horse and Cattle Handling skills and other associated pastoral activities such as fencing and water system management. This program is designed to enable and empower young people to gain employment on Cattle Stations.

Recent programs for Disengaged Indigenous Youth at Risk have been jointly funded by Department of Education and Training and Northern Territory Cattleman’s Association and have been extremely successful.

The outcomes from the first 2 Pastoral Skills Training Programs are:

  • There were 14 initial enrolments;
  • 8 participants were placed in employment;
  • 2 participants were inspired to return to full time education;
  • 2 participants were too young to enter the workforce and are still actively engaged in voluntary pastoral work experience.

Kelly’s Ranch Riding School also works in conjunction with other Trainers and Organisations to provide training and mentoring to Indigenous Youth.
